“The sun is out, the sky is blue, there’s not a cloud to spoil the view….. “. I am a Buddy Holly fan and whilst I am delighted the ‘weatherman says clear today’ I do hope the rest of the song does not apply!
Isn’t this glorious. As I was driving through the West Stirlingshire countryside this morning on my way to a book-signing event at Merchant Square in Glasgow, I thought how lucky we are to live in such breath-taking countryside. The grass and trees are a beautiful rich green – verdant is the word that sprang to mind. And of course that is because this current heatwave is the exception to our normal weather. So when the Scottish summer drizzle returns (and it will!) just remember this is what keeps our gardens and landscape so lush.
But whilst we have the sunshine, enjoy it, relax and read or listen to a good book. I have always loved listening to radio plays and comedies. Old Harry’s Game with Andy Hamilton is one of the funniest radio programmes ever broadcast. And for Father’s Day this year I received “Claire in the Community” another hilarious BBC comedy. In the last year I have also discovered the pleasure of listening to my favourite books. We are very impressed with Audible – the Amazon company which specialises in audio books. Great to hear that they now provide members with unlimited listening to original, short audio programmes, documentaries and serialised dramas. I will definitely be making the most of these.
The GUMSHOE trilogy is now available via Audible as well as A MILLION TEARS.
I think you will really like listening to the Gumshoe narrator – William L. Sturdevant. I had listened to lots of actors who auditioned but as soon as we heard William, Dorothy and I said – “That is Frank O’Brian”!! If you have not read the Gumshoe stories these are about a 1940’s private investigator in New York. Different to my other genres but people seem to like the character.
To give the audience the best deal, we have put all 3 stories on one audio called THE GUMSHOE FILES. If you sign up to Audible you can download this as your first free monthly download. Ideal for taking on holiday or for relaxing in the garden. Mayhem and The Seventh Circle are also in production – I will let you know when these are available.
I am out and about during July, August and September and as always would be delighted to see you if you are at any of the events (full list on www.henke.co.uk).
Enjoy the summer!
Regards
Paul
